MoMo Hour is a Ghanaian rewards campaign built around the MTN MoMo App. During selected one-hour windows, customers who complete qualifying transactions in the app can become eligible for the reward attached to that window.
The 2026 campaign began in September and is scheduled to run until 18 December 2026.
How does MoMo Hour work?
MobileMoney Fintech announces a reward window in advance. The window lasts for one hour, and the type of transaction that qualifies can change from one event to another.
A customer then completes the stated transaction through the MoMo App during the live period.
Which transactions can qualify?
Government information about the campaign says qualifying activities can include:
- airtime and data purchases;
- person-to-person transfers;
- MoMoPay and merchant payments;
- electricity, water and television bills;
- school fee payments;
- insurance, savings and investment payments;
- pension or loan repayments.
The exact qualifying transaction depends on the specific MoMo Hour announcement.
Is MoMo Hour a lottery?
The campaign is being run in partnership with Ghana’s Gaming Commission, according to the Information Services Department.
Users should still read the specific terms of each reward window because eligibility, selection and reward conditions can differ.
Do you need the MoMo App?
Yes. The campaign is app-exclusive.
The current MTN MoMo app supports money transfers, bill payments, QR payments, virtual cards, savings and investments, airtime and data purchases, and other financial services in supported countries including Ghana.
Is the MoMo App legitimate?
Yes. The Google Play listing identifies MTN Group Fintech as the developer and shows more than 10 million downloads across supported markets.
The larger risk is fake campaigns using the MoMo name. A scammer can copy a legitimate promotion and use it to collect PINs, passwords or one-time codes.
How to spot a fake MoMo Hour message
A real reward should not require you to hand over your MoMo PIN to another person.
Be suspicious if a message says you have won but must first send money to “unlock” the prize. Also verify unusual reward links through the MoMo App or MTN Ghana’s official channels before opening them.
What if you forget your MoMo PIN?
MTN Ghana added self-service PIN reset in the MoMo App. Its help centre says users can reset a forgotten wallet PIN without visiting a service centre.
Use the official in-app process instead of paying an unknown person to reset an account.
Why MTN is pushing app usage
Mobile money in Ghana started mainly around sending, receiving and cashing out funds. The ecosystem is now expanding toward payments, savings, credit, insurance and investment.
MoMo Hour gives users a reason to perform more of those activities inside the app rather than through only USSD or cash agents.
When does MoMo Hour end?
The published 2026 campaign period runs through 18 December 2026.
That does not mean a reward window is active every hour or every day. Customers need to wait for the announced live periods.
