Remita has moved much further into consumer banking with a new mobile app that combines multiple bank accounts, payments, money management and other financial services in one place.
The app was unveiled during Nigeria Fintech Week in Lagos in September 2026. Remita has spent more than two decades primarily as payment infrastructure for government, businesses and financial institutions, so the new app is a major push toward everyday retail users.
What can the new Remita app do?
The main idea is account aggregation. Instead of opening several different banking apps, users can connect participating accounts and see financial activity from one interface.
Current launch materials describe features including:
- viewing balances across connected bank accounts;
- sending money to Nigerian bank accounts and wallets;
- paying bills and buying airtime or data;
- accessing loan offers;
- buying investments and government securities;
- managing pensions and other financial services;
- making cross-border payments to supported African destinations.
How does multi-banking work?
Remita says the app can connect accounts from participating financial institutions so users can view and transact without constantly switching between different apps.
That does not mean Remita becomes the bank that holds every account. The original account remains with the relevant financial institution. Remita acts as the interface and payment layer connecting the services.
Can Remita send money across Africa?
Remita has said its cross-border strategy will use the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System, better known as PAPSS, for supported African transfers.
PAPSS is designed to let payments move between African countries without every transaction first being routed through a currency such as the US dollar. Actual availability still depends on supported institutions, corridors and regulatory requirements.
Does the app offer loans?
Launch coverage describes a Loans Market where users can view and compare offers from participating lenders.
This is important: the presence of a loan inside an app does not make every offer equally suitable. Before accepting one, check the lender, total repayment, interest or fees, due dates, late-payment terms and whether automatic deductions apply.
Can you invest through Remita?
The expanded app has been presented as including access to products such as stocks, shares and government bonds. Availability may differ by user, provider and regulatory status.
Investment products carry risk. A familiar payments brand does not turn an investment into a guaranteed return, so users should still read the terms of the underlying product.
Is the new Remita app legitimate?
Yes. Remita is an established Nigerian payments company and its infrastructure has been used for years by government agencies, businesses, banks and individuals.
The new consumer app was publicly launched by Remita at Nigeria Fintech Week and covered by several established Nigerian business and technology publications.
The more useful question is not whether Remita itself exists. It is whether you are downloading the official app and whether the particular service you want to use is available under clear terms.
How to avoid fake Remita apps and links
Financial brands are frequently copied by scammers. Download the app through Remita’s official website or verified app-store listing rather than through links sent in unsolicited messages.
Do not give anyone your one-time password, PIN or card details because they claim to be activating a Remita feature. If a link takes you to a login page with an unusual domain, close it and navigate to the service yourself.
Who is the app for?
The product is most useful for people who already operate several bank accounts and want one view of balances, transfers and everyday payments.
It may also appeal to people who want to compare financial products without moving between several separate apps.
What we still want to see
The launch explains the product vision, but the practical experience will depend on how many institutions are supported, how reliable account syncing is, what cross-border corridors are live, and how fees compare with alternatives.
Those are the areas that matter more after launch than a long feature list.
