Well, believe it or not, Nigeria possesses some of the best Universities in Africa and even more surprisingly, in the world!

It is even more surprising that these universities have also been ranked worldwide in the list of the Top Best Universities in the world?

The universities listed below are no doubt some of the best Universities) Institutions in Nigeria and Africa.

What seems to be funny is even that the schools listed below to be the top ten best Universities in Nigeria are not the ones with the highest numbers of applicants.

Very popular institutions like Unilorin are not included in the Top Ten Best Universities in Nigeria list.

1. University of Ibadan.

Ranked on position 1258 in the world, the university of Ibadan, is the best University in Nigeria for the year 2021.

It was established in 1948 and was the first University to exist in Nigeria.

Popularly referred to as UI, the university is super standard.

In fact, it is the best in West Africa.

It is located in Oyo State.

To be a student of this prestigious Institution, you need to study quite hard or they show you the way out.

2. Covenant University, Ota.

These University is ranked on position 1374 in the world.

Despite the fact that it’s a private University, this University is ranked in 2021 as the second best University in Nigeria.

It was founded on the twenty first of October, 2002 

Thus means that the school is only 19 years old.

If you are Christian, this school is sure the perfect one for you.

It was founded based on Christian Ethics.

3. University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

I am sure you think that ” Oh my, why is this ranking in third instead of first?”

Well, I also think same. The school was founded by a well known statesman, Nnamdi Azikwe in the year 1955.

It was later renamed University of Biafra and then changed again to UNN (University of Nigeria, Nsukka).

It comes to me as a little surprise that this standard school doesn’t rank first.

4. Obafemi Awolowo University.

 Ranked number 1742 in the world, this school is sure among the top ten best Universities in Nigeria.

The University was founded in 1961 and classes commenced on October, year 1962.

It was formerly called the University of Ife and was renamed after the late Obafemi Awolowo, a nationalist in the west.

5. The University of Lagos.

One of the most popular schools in West Africa and ranked 1836 in the world, this University is no doubt among the top ten best Universities in Nigeria. More so, it was founded in the year 1962, exactly 2 years after Nigerian independence. 

It’s called a first generation University, as one of the first five Universities to exist in Nigeria.

6. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).

You must have heard of people saying “I’m going to ABU”.

This school is by far the most popular school in the north.

It was founded on October the 4th, year 1962, and was formerly called the University of Northern Nigeria. It is no bad place to be for sure man!

7. University of Porthacourt.

This school is not very popular, I must say. In the year 2015, it was ranked on position 6th in the African Continent and the first in Nigeria.

It now ranks 2492 in the world and 7th in Nigeria.

It’s not a bad position to be though.

The University still maintains a high standard of education 

8. Federal University of Akure.

Popularly known as FUTA, and founded in 1989, the University is among the top ten best Universities in Nigeria and may be the best in terms of practical.

It is located in Akure, Ondo state. It is also often called FUT, Akure.

9. University of Benin.

Informally called UNIBEN, this institution ranks as the 2700th best University in the world and was established in 1970. The University motto goes-n”Knowledge for Service”.

She has a number of 15 faculties in her possession. They have over 75000 registered students in their school centers.

10. Adekunle Ajasin University.

Surprisingly, I have never heard of this school before now.

Even though it was established in 1999 with over 20000 registered students in their possession, the school seems to have risen and towered. It is the 10th best University in Nigeria for the year 2021. Well, It has shockingly ranked as the 2907th best University in the world and last of the top ten best Universities in Nigeria in the year 2021.

So, we have come to the end of the list of the top ten best Universities in Nigeria.
